I have a FAN!

by Tom Klein on August 23rd, 2010

This could be blog about going to home depot and buying  a box fan, but it’s not.

I went to visit my doctor for a maintenance check. When you’re as old as I am, you’ll need regular maintenance too.

Anyway, a few months ago, I violated Steven King’s recommendations, well before I knew his recommendations and gave her the first half of a book I’m writing. One of my main characters is a female medical doctor and so is my real life family physician. Now before you think otherwise, I didn’t ask her to read it. I asked her about her job, her hours, house calls and terminal deseases. She asked why I was so curious and we started talking about my writing and my book. Only half finished at the time and on my 1st draft (Is there a Zeroth draft?) I printed a copy of what I had and gave it to her.

So yesterday, she brought it up. She asked “Where was the rest of the book? “I want to read the rest of it, you left me hanging. They were in Rome and I want to know what happens.”

She’s right, five months later and she remembers where the story left off in the last chapter I gave her.

I am so glad. Knowing that someone outside the family finds your book intriguing is a definite plus!
